And we left early that morning at 5:15
with little or no sleep
the truth is I don't remember that night

except the fire embers burning bright
it was light out across the horizon
we grabbed our clothes and ran
"I bet I can run as fast as you can"
down the street our feet the ground
but we dared not make a sound

it was summer then and I never wanted to change
the sun over Evergreen brought light to life in a whole new way

It seemed that night as I looked out
over the fading night sky
the only thing I could think was
"if only this were my life"

I'll never forget the way the trees
emerged from the sleep of the clouds
I sat on that hill, the grass was wet somehow
wet with the night it would dry with the sun
and I found myself here sun and moon being one
and when it's all done and if it's not too late
if I walk home soon I can be home by eight

2 hours later and now I'm at home
vision fade with memory and sadness of being alone
you cannot tell what happens and you may lose a friend
but on Evergreen that morning I knew life wouldn't end

It seemed that night as I looked out
over the fading night sky
the only thing I could think was
"this must be my life"
