Something off is going on
Downtown
All the lights and flicking on
And the sound
Of trains is dying out
Replaced by people whispering out,

”I've opened my windows and let in the light
I've quieted down, put my glasses on and tuned myself up right
You'd think that everything's on and nothing's off, but I can tell you I
can still hear the crowd sobbing at night”

The dead now are inside
Of every home
They bathe in the basking light
And where did my life end
And why am I with them and will it begin again?
They say,

”No, no, you're off the course, you lost yourself alive
In eyes that pulled you along then ripped you out from the inside
The sound of pianos thrown from our high rise
is the song you'll hear before you sleep every night”

The last thing that I remember
is holding your hand
and bracing myself
to kick the door down
then I don't know
but I was told

I ran down the street with the flashing light and climbed the city square
I had a speech planned out but when I opened my mouth, I couldn't find the air
I wanted to say, “You can marry love and still keep all your strength”
Then I turned around, and there was the crowd,
arms outstretched, screaming aloud,

“We know, we called the trains, we're getting out”
